Try snacking on popcorn or almonds.
1Make sure you take breaks every now and then. Get up and walk around to clear your mind and get a little movement going.
2well don't sit down and eating doritos mindlessly while studying. try smaller portion bags. when you have a HUGE bag, you don't know how much you're eating and you'll most likely finish the whole bag. if anything, get a huge bag of carrot or celery sticks! you won't get enormous from eating a big bag of those =] and try small portions of energy food like nuts. try jiggling your legs when you study, and move around and take breaks. the breaks will also clear your head!
3Almonds (unsalted) and dried cranberries are my saving grace. I just make up little bags full of them, and if I have access to a fridge I also do carrots, cut up peppers, and low fat spinach dip. For a sweet tooth, i bring along a few dark chocolate kisses (only 25 cals each). Not having access to the whole bag really saves me. And for some reason iced nonfat vanilla lattes fill me up (no idea on that one).
4bly is right, study breaks are necessary. i take a walk around a park or the library inbetween subjects. it helps clear the mind and it's good to move. also, if you have the munchies, i think that frozen veggies are wonderful. they're crunchy while hard and it's just water and fiber! frozen fruit has a lot of sugar in it.
5back 500 years ago when i was a student i had to get up and lap around the building at least every hour
6Yo - I'm like you - I snack when I study.. mostly salty stuff - starches with a lot of water.
There's no stopping it. Sometimes you just need that brain food.
Almonds are good stuff... but your jaw gets tired very quickly.
If you're gonna snack... rice cakes are good, or the corn cakes, or the Quakers Rice Cheddar Snacks.. (9 cakes about 2 inch diameters are only 70 calories) Good snackage right there.
