Weight loss question

I've just started a diet/exercise routine last month. According to the scale I lost 7 lbs in February, but I haven't SEEN any changes at all yet. My question is, how long has it taken you guys to SEE a result from weight loss? I've recently stepped up my cardio & weight lifting hoping that will help. I'm anxious for my clothes to fit better & just wondered how long most people go before that happens.

Thanks in advance for your answers!

Stopping late night snacking?

So I have been trying to eat better and count my calorie input/output for the past month or so, I am even keeping a food journal. I am usually pretty good throughout the day...that is until about 8pm rolls around. I become this ravaging, hungry lady who will eat anything sweet in sight. I will sometimes undo my entire days worth of diet and exercise because my sweet tooth is so bad.
So I was wondering if you guys and gals have any pointers that you all use to avoid late-night snacking? Or if you have any low-cal snacks that won't have me working out extra hard the next day to make up for my late night binging?

Building muscle but not losing fat. Grrr

This is my second time around trying to lose the weight. Just wondering how normal this is or whether I should be doing something different. Any feedback would be appreciated.
I've been going to the gym 3 x per week since the beginning of January. A typical workout includes 40 minutes of moderate to intense cardio with another 30 mnutes or so weights (day 1 - back, chest. day 2 - legs. day 3 - arms).
I do a variety of cardio depending on my mood. It's usually one, some or all of the follwing: recumbant bike, elliptical, stairmaster. But I really don't like to run.
So far I've been building muscle just fine, but the fat doesn't seem to be going anywhere (maybe a wee bit but nothing substantial).
Should I just keep on keeping on or change something up?

ideas to help "sound proof" a small eliptical or bike...

I was just wondering if anyone has any idea of something I could use to put under a small eliptical or bike or even treadmill to help soundproof it. I live on the third floor of an apartment building and the last thing I need is someone complaining about hearing me excercise above them (like if the machine were to rock or something random.. the machines at the gym get pretty noisy so I am just nervous to buy one for my apartment.)

Weird HRM Experiment - wearing for 24/7

Hey Everyone!
Today I started an admittedly odd "experiment" of wearing my heart rate monitor 24/7. It tracks "calories burned" so I thought, "Well, if I'm referencing this for my exercise, why not wear it for a whole day and see how many calories I actually burn in a day?"
The results: not what I expected. According to my HRM, in the past 5 hours I've burned 819 calories. This averages out to 3,100 calories a day - which I know I do not burn.
So my question - are hrm's really accurate in estimating calories burned during exercise?

2009

Hi everyone! Started going to the gym 1month ago..decided I would work on my health/body this year and my diet..i started eating more fruits, veggies, and drastically cut down my carbs...eating more fish and less chicken, cut out the fast food too (working out helps...it reminds you how much you have to work to burn the calories you just ate)

starting weight : 190lbs
height: 5'7"
built: large ( i played competitive tennis when i was younger)
goal weight: 140-150
highschool weight : 155

Month 1:
Jan 2nd: ----Jan 31: lost 10 lbs YIPPEE
I went to the gym 3-4 x a wk
wk 1-3 elliptical (40m-1hr) had to work my way up to 500 calories
wk 4 : treadmill (walking 1hr 3.5mph up to 10 incline) worked up to 620 cal so far .....I want to start jogging or running in intervals to maximize my "calories burned
* I did weight machines too..leg press, did squats on leg press machine, adductor machine, abductor machine, row machine, lat pull down
* at home i do biceps curls, push up, triceps curl and row and squats and lunges with 10 and 15lb weights,

MY PLAN FOR
Month 2:
(Feb 1)Wk 5- treadmill
Wk 6- elliptical
Wk7-elliptical
Wk 8-treadmil
**plus weight trainig**

WILL UPDATE MY RESULTS END OF FEB!
IF ANYONE HAS ANY TIPS TO HELP ME PLEASE POST!

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!!!

Your Tips on Cutting Calories

If getting fit in 2010 and finally losing weight is one of your goals, getting portions under control and learning tricks for cutting calories are great ways to make that happen. Here are some of your tips on how to lower your calorie intake.

"Don't drink calories (except milk in cereal)." - pixystik4u

"Spritz olive oil spray instead of drizzling while I am cooking." - frenchys

An anonymous reader said, "Dip your fork in salad dressing with each bite instead of pouring the dressing on. It makes each bite more flavorful and you end up using much less."

"Replace half of every meal portion with salad leaves - whatever it was that you were going to eat, halve your portion, then fill up the plate with baby leaf spinach, or lettuce, anything that is raw, and has no dressing." - ticamorena

Zulkey says, "I try to add low-calorie foods to my high calorie food to bulk it up. Like I made a sausage/bean/crouton/asparagus dish from Smitten Kitchen but put it on a bed of spinach. Other than that, I just try to reduce the amount of butter/oil in a recipe so I still get flavor but save about a hundred calories."

"Keeping up with what you eat in a food journal helps so you can track any extra calories you're taking in. And a big thing that helps me is to try to eat slower. I tend to inhale my food, but if I take time to eat it, I realize I'm full faster." - katyharper
